Educational Activities
Guacamaya The Foundation has developed a challenging curriculum for basic education. The program consists of interactive lessons do various activities. The main themes of the program, the nature and Mayan culture in Guatemala, and the daily lives of Mayan children. The children include the opportunity for themselves to make lemonade, Maya to dress in costume, and a traditional danspak to do.
A lesson can be extended by an exchange with children in Guatemala. Thus, children exchange drawings or questions to one another. The program can be completed with a play or other public activity as a Mayan Market. The pupils in primary schools and teachers respond very enthusiastically to the program.
The curriculum can be adapted to the level and age of the students. If the program is also suitable for secondary education. In collaboration with a VMBO is a fun activity where students organized Guatemalan dishes are prepared and these were used for serving a Guatemalan lunch.
It is noteworthy that the students most involved in the activity known for their bad behavior. They got the chance to work for a good cause, and were now on their best side.
