Courses

In the Mayan village of El Corozal Guacamaya in 1997, the Foundation launched an educational center. The center organizes courses primarily aimed at teaching practical skills like sewing, cooking and carpentry courses, and courses aimed at promoting sustainable land use such as afforestation, growing vegetables and raising chickens. The most successful course focuses on the cultivation and use of bamboo. After participating in the course, participants bamboo plants bamboo themselves so they eventually have to create a home and / or furniture. Some of the courses organized in collaboration with INTECAP, a Guatemalan organization. The participants after completion of these courses have a nationally recognized qualification.

The educational center has at its disposal an area of 10 hectares. The site consists of a piece of natural forest, planted many trees, bamboo gardens and some chickens. The area of the center supports the educational courses by the success in practice to reveal the chicken gardens, reforestation and the cultivation of bamboo.

The objective of the training center for participants to learn practical skills which they better their livelihood, and also to promote sustainable land use in order to further curb deforestation and truly sustainable economic development to achieve.
